There are two types of people in the world: those who celebrate their birthday week and those who do not. Here is how I like to celebrate mine, with some physical distancing accommodations.
Send My Wish List To My Mom and Eric. I keep a note on my phone of things I want as I see them or think of them. This might sound greedy or selfish but I think it’s just helpful! This year I am hoping for this Pokoloko blanket from Bradshaws.
Have Visits With My Friends. I think the weather is going to be great for some driveway or porch visits while maintaining some distance. A glass of wine or a cup or tea, some laughs and just to spend time with my favourite people is exactly what I need.
Enjoy My Family Dinner at My Mom’s House. My mom lets us all pick our meals and the cake we want for our birthday dinner and my sisters and I exchange small gifts. I guess this year I will have to settle for something virtual unless the restrictions lift by this weekend!
Do Something Active. I will want to get out for a long bike ride or walk or play some tennis on the day of my birthday. Currently, only members from the same household can play one another at the tennis club. Eric and I aren’t terribly good at playing sports…together.
Read the Homemade Cards From My Kids. I have always stressed to the kids the importance of a personalized message in a card and I love to see what they come up with for my birthday. It usually involves thanking me for making them food and helping them with their homework. (Don’t I sound like loads of fun!)
Throw a Party. We haven’t done this for a while. We’re due for it. We love to go all out. Clear the furniture, hire a bartender and server, let loose and treat our friends to a good time. I am really a lot of fun on these nights! I posted my best party tips last year.
Go Out For a Nice Dinner (and have Lisa make me a beautiful cake). This is my most favourite thing to do for my birthday. Actually, I like to go out for several dinners around my birthday – one with girlfriends, one with our group of friends (couples) and one with Eric and the kids. This is why I need a week to celebrate. I will miss this a lot this year. I will miss gathering around my favourite table at my favourite restaurant with my favourite people. Luckily, Stratford has so many amazing restaurants that do delicious take out. It will just make me appreciate my dinners out even more, when all of this passes.
Do you celebrate your birthday week? What are your favourite things to do?
This will be a different birthday for you but I’m sure you will still love it & embrace how different may be better in some ways xo
