A colleague of mine shared with me that her sister’s favourite day of the week is Thursday. Thursday, because the whole weekend is still ahead of you. And that is an excellent reason to love Thursday.
Then just yesterday, a friend shared with me her favourite day of the week is Sunday. Sunday? Like the day that comes before Monday? But I think a lot of people like Sunday. She shared that her husband always used to have off Sundays when he was in the food industry and it has just remained her favourite.
It got me wondering what my favourite day is. And aside from how busy Saturdays can be with sports, I have decided that a free Saturday is definitely my favourite day. A free Saturday morning means no alarm clock, our tradition of tea and donuts at Revel, an afternoon open to spontaneous plans and a night in to watch a movie, go out for dinner, or visit with friends. ALL my favourite things in one day! A Saturday full of tournaments is also pretty great too. We love to watch (and coach) the kids and hang out with the other parents.
I do TRY and make the best of all of the days. I try not to focus on getting to the weekend or to my next holiday because I don’t want to wish my life away. I try to find something likeable about every day. I love Sunday dinners at my mom’s house, The Bachelor on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays…I’ll get back to you, Thursday because the next day is Friday, and Friday is obvious.
Finding something small to love about each day, even a reality tv show, can help change our mindsets about some of the toughest days of the week. Having more gratitude is something I am trying to work on. I don’t keep a journal or anything, I am just trying to be more appreciative of each day. Have I told you how much I love the movie About Time?! This lovely movie completely reminds me of the importance of this every time I watch it. And I watch it a lot.
Happy Sunday!
What is your favourite day of the week?
As a shift worker my favourite day of the week is constantly changing. Some weeks my favourite days are Wednesday and Thursday and then Friday Saturday and Sunday can’t be over fast enough. You get to enjoy the house to yourself sometimes but you miss out on all the fun when you work all weekend. But I knew what I was getting myself into when I became a nurse.
I love this perspective, Cindy! Weekends are only ‘weekends’ for people that work Mon-Fri. A quiet house would be lovely, but as you say, it can come at a cost when you miss out on weekend fun. Thanks for this.
I like Sundays and Wednesdays. Sunday dinners are fun and all the cousins get to play together, except Nicholas. He now hangs out with the guys. You, too, would like Wednesdays if you looked forward to wings at the Boar’s Head😋
I need to like something about Wednesdays but I don’t think my waistline can handle Boar’s Head that often. I don’t know how you guys do it!
