Hello Fresh is my new obsession. In December, a friend sent me a coupon for a free week. Three free meals sounded good to me so we gave it a try. We have not missed ordering a week since and tell everyone I can how much it has changed my life! I realize this might be reading like an ad but it is not. Hello Fresh has not given me anything except the joy I get cooking delicious meals during our busy, busy weeks.
I do like to cook but I had not been staying on top of planning out our week of meals or preparing meals on the weekend and so I was always stressed when it came to dinner. I often had no idea what I was going to feed everyone!
You can check it out for yourself, but here are the reasons why I love it and a few of the things that might give you pause…
I love that…
- I do not have to think about what to make for dinner during the week
- We are eating more variety than EVER before
- There is NO food waste
- We often have leftovers for a lunch or meal or two
- It tastes great!
- We are not at the grocery store as often. This also means we are spending far less on things we don’t necessarily need
- We get take out less
- You can skip weeks anytime
Things to consider…
- We spend $130 a week on three meals for four. This is plenty of food for five of us but it could be pricey if you don’t adjust your grocery and take-out spending
- The amount of packing bothers me. We can recycle lots of it but recycling is really not a great option anymore – we need less packaging
I honestly don’t know how we will ever get off of this type of food delivery. With less packing, this could be the way of the future for a lot of people. The reduction in food waste alone is worth it.
If you would like a coupon for a free box, let me know! I still promise they give me nothing!
Do you get Hello Fresh? Or meals from another company?
Let me know how you like it!
Hi Lori,
I’d love to try out Hello Fresh! Can you send me the coupon?
Thanks again! Always look forward to reading your blogs!
Thanks for reading, Jen! I want to know how you like it!
After reading your article I asked around at work to see if others have used HelloFresh. I was surprised to learn that quite my colleagues have. We had a good chat:
This is what I Learned:
-everyone wants to find a way to reduce that meal time stress!
-They like the convince but struggle with how much waste is in the packaging.
-Some that use the service still find it stressful because they still have to cook the food.
-They also find there isn’t great recipes selection and prefer the service GoodFood. Apparently it’s not as expensive and their recipes are easier to follow.
I love the concept of these companies because it gets families cooking healthy meals. Teaching our kids how to cook is so important for their overall well- being.
(Keep the great articles coming…I love reading them!)
I have friends that like Good Food and I should try it for sure. I know you’re Italian and probably like to do the cooking yourself!? Thank you, as always, for reading Francesca.
We liked it as well, the only thing is that darn packaging as you mentioned. Especially living in Stratford, where they are recycling less and less these days it’s a hard pill to swallow with all the little plastic packaging in these boxes.
It’s the ice packs that bug me the most. We try to reuse them but there are only so many we need!
Interesting! I must try! If you have a free coupon send it my way! Kinsteve22@rogers.com
I’ll get you one as soon as I get another free one. Should be Monday! The whole neighbourhood will be on it!
Doug and I like that we are cooking using more spices and I believe it is a healthier way of eating for us. Because of Hello Fresh, we eat at home more and enjoy the minimal preparation.
I’m proud/shocked you and Doug tried it and stuck with it.
