I am not sure when exactly my love for tea began. I grew up in a home where coffee was the hot beverage of choice. I will only occasionally drink coffee. I am still trying to acquire a taste for it. But tea? I drink several cups a day. Every morning I make a cup for myself and the girls. Mia lovingly gets hers delivered to her bedroom. We all drink it the same way – with lots of milk and a heaping amount of honey (always purchased locally, of course, from Stuart. Let me know if you want to connect with him!). And always English Breakfast or Orange Pekoe.
A couple of months ago, I caught a news report on pesticides in tea and the worst brands. It made me so uncomfortable that I didn’t even follow up to learn more. It was too scary considering how much tea we drink (and, let’s face it, I needed to finish our giant box of tea bags before making any rash decisions). Then, I caught another news story on the environmental impact of tea bags. Something had to change.
The tea I drink at Revel is loose leaf tea from Tea Leaves in Stratford and now the McCabe house is serving loose leaf tea from Tea Leaves as well. No more tea bags. Well, I will keep a box of David’s Organic on hand but otherwise, it’s a pot with loose leaf for all of us simply poured through a sieve. I am feeling really good about this small change for my family. Yay for small changes that can make a big difference!
What small changes have you made that make you feel good?
Love love love tea! Have a massive amount of a variety of flavours – all loose. My fav at the moment is a white tea with cranberries ♥️ Our change in diet is beginning … you MUST watch Game Changers in Netflix. We watched it with the boys …
I’m afraid to watch it but I will…
I keep trying to make a difference. Bees wax wrap instead of Saran, reusable baggies. Yes, I have to get rid of my bad stuff first. Good point, Lori. Tea will be next. The frustrating part is we try to do our small part & you go to the grocery store where everything is wrapped in plastic. The amount of packaging we use in our society must change. And I work at a hospital where the amount of waste is phenomenal. Gloves, isolation gowns, food waste. So the moral of the story is we should keep doing our small part but we need to advocate for change in our society. Hopefully our consumer choices have an effect.
I agree. I used to be so proud of myself for reusing and recycling but those are the least important of the three. I am loving my tea from Tea Leaves. I take my honey jars with me and fill them up instead of getting it put in bags.
Nice work! The kids see this change and I bet their proud of you. What most ppl don’t realize is that even David’s isn’t always the best. One does not need “natural flavours” in their tea. Plants have so much flavour when you’re steeping them in hot water on their own.
xo
We get all of our tea from Karen at Tea Leaves. She is a tea sommelier and mixes her own teas. She is wonderful!! Do yourself a favour Lori and grab some friends and go to a Karen’s Chocolate and Tea Tasting (or honey and tea tasting). Very informative and yummy

A tasting is a great idea!!! And then dinner 😉
I love tea too and I drink 2 large cups of black tea a day with an occasional 3rd herbal later in the day. I’ve found a lovely tea I like at Distinctly Tea so I use re-useable tea strainers for my morning tea, which I feel very good about! I just have to make my way through the tea bags at work and then I’ll make a healthier and more environmentally friendly change there!
Work and on the road is harder for sure. So many of us tea-grannies around!
I had no idea about either of those concerns!!
Now you can’t un-know!
Good choice. Tastes much better too! I buy mine from Distinctly tea!
You have for a long time. Why didn’t I start sooner?! Lazy?!
