As much as I love getting my hair done, I do find the fact that I have to go every five weeks to hide my ‘natural highlights’ a little impractical. I asked seven people how often they get their hair done and here is what they had to say…

I go every five weeks. This big blonde hair needs a lot of help! First, I’m not a natural blonde. Two, I have greys popping up all over the place. And until every strand of my hair is gray, I’ll rock this hair. It can be hard to keep up going every five weeks. Sometimes I leave it for seven, even eight weeks, so I have lots of hats and headbands in my house to hide my roots. I even carry them in my purse or my car so I have them when I need them.

I used to go every five weeks. Then I started seeing someone on Queen Street in Toronto. My hair cut cost me $200. She told me I should only be washing my hair once a week and that I should only get my hair done every two months. She said I’m 64 years old and I have great hair so I should work with it. I couldn’t let it go that long between cuts though. Now I get a $35 haircut at Grotto and go every six weeks.

I go every four weeks to The Green Hair Spa, five if I have to. I go because it gives me pleasure. I love how my hair feels. I get my head massaged. She gives me a hair treatment because I’m getting older and my hair is getting more coarse and it makes my hair feel so healthy. It is a vanity thing, for sure. And if I had to not have hair anymore, I’d figure out a different way to care for myself. It’s three hours to myself!”

I don’t go very often. It’s expensive so I go about once a year to get it trimmed. I’m actually growing it back out. I cut it all off about a year ago. I have to go into Toronto (Urban Curls) because they know how to deal with my hair. I prefer to wear my hair down but I have to tie it back for work all the time.

I go every two months to get my extensions lifted at Pure Bliss Extensions. I go about every three months to get a cut and colour retouch with Christina. I wash it every two days. I know I shouldn’t. I like to change my hairstyle up all the time. I was blonde. My extensions offer me versatility.

The last time I had my hair done at a salon was a year ago. I usually do my own roots. I also cut it myself or make someone in my family cut it. I usually only go to the salon to get my hair shaped because it’s so thick. I cut my husband’s hair and my kids’ hair. My mom always cut her own hair and I used to cut my brothers’ hair all the time. I guess that’s just how I grew up.

Well, because I’m an actor at the Festival, I am only allowed to get my hair done when they schedule it due to the show. They like it long so I only get it cut every couple of months while I’m working. When I’m not under contract, I go see Jen at Jennders about every six weeks.
