I LOVE to plan parties. Eric’s 40th was the happiest party I have ever attended and I was the host! Our next big house party we called, The Number One Only party. We had just finished all three of our bathrooms and were looking for an excuse to host again. I also recently planned 40th and 50th parties for my friends’ spouses. So, I have some street cred in the party business. Here are my tips to planning and executing the perfect house party for any special occasion – like new toilets.
- Hire a bartender and server. Wait! Don’t quit reading. This is a game changer. It will take your party to the next level. Really. Trust me.
2. Set up a proper bar area for the bartender and create a special bar menu for the occasion. Glassware is cheap to rent at a Party Supply store or may even be provided by whomever is catering the food.
3. Order food. Keep it simple and fun. We LOVE having Pazzo help us out.
4. Clear the party space of extra furniture, especially dining room and kitchen chairs. Roll up carpets (there will be spills) and encourage people ‘not’ to sit by doing this. We want to party!
5.Write a toast! Don’t let a celebration (birthday, retirement, anniversary, new toilets, whatever!) go by without rising to the occasion.
6. Dim the lights. Light some tea lights. Create a great playlist. Atmosphere matters!
Hosting parties is a great way to bring people together and celebrate your friendships. You don’t have to be as elaborate as I have suggested to throw a good party. Just invite your friends over and ask them to bring something to share, turn down the lights, play some music and you’ve got a great party.
What are your party experiences???
Any other tips?
My retirement party was in Lori’s backyard. It was amazing! I felt like I was starring in a movie. Lori has been party planning ever since she was a child.
Thanks, mom. Your retirement was the first time we ever hired people to help work a party. It was the best!
Love this!
Try it sometime 😉 I’ll do all the planning! Thanks for reading!
I can vouch for all of these tips. Brian’s 50th was a hit because of them. Clearing out the furniture gave me a lot of angst but definitely is a must!!
You were the perfect client! 😉
Hi Lori,
So glad you are doing this again!! I’ve missed reading your blogs!
Thanks, Jen. So far I’m glad I’m doing it too 🙂
